Gabby Giffords, Parkland survivors and Chicago celebrities will join St. Sabina for end-of-school peace march

So, Saint Sabina Catholic Church has been sponsoring community anti-violence marches for years? How’s this working out in Chicago of all places, where gun violence is sky-high? By the way, Chicago has one of the most stringent gun laws of any major U.S. city! Again, how’s this working out? TGO

The event, organized with St. Sabina Catholic Church, is the first stop on the countrywide #RoadtoChange tour planned by the Parkland survivor organizers. It also falls on the last Friday Chicago’s public schools are in session.

“In all these decades of school shootings, I have not seen the youth rise up so strong and so bold and so courageous, and so we wanted to immediately connect to that because violence has many faces,” the Rev. Michael Pfleger, St. Sabina’s pastor, told the Tribune earlier this month.

As it has for years, St. Sabina will sponsor community anti-violence marches each Friday during the summer. Church leadership says the kickoff event has drawn between 1,000 and 2,000 attendees in the past, but that it hopes this year’s lineup brings out 5,000.

The #RoadtoChange tour will include some 50 stops, including one in Naperville. David Hogg, Emma Gonzalez, Cameron Kasky and Jaclyn Corin, all from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where the shooting in Parkland took place, and about two dozen other students are expected to talk about their experiences during a town hall meeting June 16 at DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church.

How is it working out? Well, how are things working out with gravity? Everything is the way it is because of everything being the way it is. Great! If not, things would be the way they aren’t, instead of the way they are, and that would really suck!
