Mesa vigil aims to prevent suicides of gay Mormons

I would think that those gay Mormons committing suicide are doing so because their stupid faith, like all faiths, makes them outcasts because of their sexual orientation and/or preference.

I’ve done research into the Mormons, and in my mind there are only two types of people who can be truly happy Mormons: those too dumb to know otherwise, and those with the intestinal fortitude to survive any given situation.

Unfortunately, those individuals with a weak character who are made to feel less than human because they deviate from the norm and aren’t heterosexuals are the ones committing suicide. Just imagine, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints considers homosexual relations as a “serious transgression,” along with murder, rape, burglary, fraud, perjury the sale of illegal drugs; etc.

Ah, the wonders of religious indoctrination; there’s nothing else like it on Earth. TGO

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Members of the Phoenix Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Coalition are holding a suicide-prevention outreach and candlelight vigil aimed at preventing gay Mormon suicides in Arizona.

The group began its vigil last week near the Mesa Arizona Temple as the church launched its annual Christmas lights display.

Organizer Caleb Laieski says the event is designed to show members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and others who are not open about their sexual orientation that there are support networks available to help them.

One Response to Mesa vigil aims to prevent suicides of gay Mormons

  1. Seth R. says:

This was a rather irresponsible news article. It provided zero proof of the majority of its data points and its assertions from that non-existent data. A non-Mormon journalist summarizes the problems with the article here:

    http://www.getreligion.org/2010/12/inferences-cant-be-made/

Apparently the article has had most of its data points removed or gutted by the paper’s editors, but the original version made a lot of assertions that seemed to have been manufactured out of thin air.

The epidemic of gay Mormon suicides is something that a lot of people seem to assume exists, but mysteriously few really back it up with reliable data.
