Dr. Laura plans to end radio show at end of year

Surely all of these ultra-conservatives in the media: Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly and televangelists such as Pat Robertson (to name a few) along with this bimbo, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, must be putting on an act. I really can’t believe that they believe some of the things they say. Surely they can’t be that ignorant. I’ve gotta think that these radio and television personalities are simply trying to appeal to the low IQ, ultra-conservative masses in this country who can’t see past their own nose. You know, the people who put George W. Bush in the White House; twice – and who would no doubt vote for him again if given the opportunity.

Anyway, their strategy (again, I’m assuming this is all shtick) definitely works. They are all quite popular and needless to say, quite wealthy as well. TGO

LOS ANGELES – Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the talk show host who recently apologized for saying the N-word 11 times to a caller on the air, said Tuesday she plans to give up her radio show when her contract is up at the end of this year.

The conservative advice maven made the announcement on CNN’s “Larry King Live,” saying she wants to “regain her First Amendment rights.”

Schlessinger said she’s not retiring or quitting. Instead, she said, she feels stronger and freer to say what she believes needs to be said.

“I want to be able to say what’s on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry — some special interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates and sponsors,” she said.

Schlessinger apologized last week for saying the N-word several times in an on-air conversation with a caller whom she accused of being hypersensitive to racism. She said on her website that she was wrong in using the word for what she said was an attempt to make a philosophical point.

“To imagine that there are people who refuse to accept an apology because they have an agenda and would like me silenced — I’m done with that,” she said.

During the on-air exchange, Schlessinger said the caller, who said she was black and married to a white man, was too sensitive for complaining that her husband’s friends made racist comments about her in their home.

Schlessinger told King she “never called anybody a bad word” and “wasn’t dissing anybody.”

Corinne Baldassano, an executive with Schlessinger’s production company, Take on the Day LLC, said the talk show host plans to pursue opportunities through her website, books, podcasts and a YouTube channel.

At least two national sponsors of her radio program, General Motors Co., and Motel 6, owned by Accor SA, have pulled out, Baldassano said.

Previously, Schlessinger’s negative comments about homosexuality on her television show in 2000 inspired gay activists to campaign to get her off the air.

Yo, yo, yo, TGO, ‘ma niga! I am in agreement with what you say and I’ve listened to her show a number of times thru-out the years and like her as a much as I liked Anita Bryant – 0 on a scale of 1 thru 10 – but my reasons for the dislike is because of what she says, not for the words she uses, to say what she says. I listened to the “N word” clip of her show and personally didn’t find anything wrong with it as, in context, the use of word was crucial to the point she was making.
As a matter of fact, I think all the flack that her “N word” tirade has created was generated by the emotionally uptight culture we have become in an attempt to be politically correct.
I miss the All in the Family era. The show was notorious for featuring language and epithets previously absent from television, such as “fag” for homosexual, “hebe” for Jews, “spic” for Hispanics, “mick” for Irish, “dago” and “wop” for Italians, “polack” for Polish, “chink” for Chinese, “Jap” for Japanese, “gook” for southeast Asian, “spade” for blacks, and phrases such as “God damn it”, but you never saw a brother, or any other berated personality, bust a cap on Archie Bucker because the show threw a humorous spotlight on Archie’s frailties, prejudices, and concerns. By making them a source of laughter they showed, in a mature fashion, just how absurd they were. And anyway, Archie usually lost his arguments by reason of his own stupidity.
Llike my senior year, high school english teacher, Mr. Richards, told us the first day of class, “Fuck and Spagettii are the same thing…words”
In that era I could also go up to a female co-worker and give her a shoulder massage without getting hit with a sexual harassment charge.
Those were the days, my friend.
    Love and Peace

GhostRider, I couldn’t agree with you more; those were the days…

Now that we live in this plastic, sterile environment where everyone is so easily offended and we are almost forced to be politically correct we’ve regressed as a people, a country, and a species; in fact, we’ve actually lost our humanity.

Unfortunately, the ‘good ol’ days are gone, and gone for good. But, we are lucky that we experienced them, if only for a brief moment in time…
