Bahrain cracks down on Shiite activists

Shiite Muslims set tires on fire to block traffic in Bahrain, protesting against Sunni Muslims because they claim they are being discriminated against. In addition to all the other baggage associated with religion, this is yet one more of the things that I find completely illogical; but then there is nothing logical about religion or its adherents.

Both of these groups are Islamic, yet they dislike each other (that might be an understatement) because of differing ideologies within their basic faith. You see, it isn’t just the West that these people have a “problem” with, or the Jews, they have a “problem” with others within their own religion.

If it wasn’t for the fact that these people are violent and responsible for the death of thousands of people throughout the world each year, their entire “act” would be a comedy. Only religious minds could be this unstable and out of touch with the material world. TGO

MANAMA, Bahrain – A Bahraini lawyer says security forces have detained six more opposition members in a crackdown on the Gulf kingdom’s majority Shiites who complain of being disenfranchised.

Lawyer Mohammed al-Tajir said Tuesday a total of 10 activists, including eight leading members of the opposition, have been detained since Saturday.

Al-Tajir said the detained have not been charged and their whereabouts are unknown.

Security officials said they are targeting opposition figures seeking to harm national stability. The crackdown follows a series of violent Shiite-led protests accusing the government of discrimination.

Shiites are a majority in Bahrain, but the island nation, home to the U.S. Fifth Fleet, is ruled by a Sunni royal family.
