Lithuanian court reverses ban on gay pride parade

I never understood these gay pride parades. What’s the point? Heterosexuals don’t have heterosexual pride parades. What is it about being gay that one has to celebrate and be so proud about? We’re all human beings aren’t we? It seems people aren’t content just being part of the human race anymore. Everyone is looking to belong to or identify with this group or that group. Republicans/Democrats; Catholics/Protestants/Muslims/Jews; Gay/Straight; Black/White/Hispanic; etc, etc.

Instead of identifying ourselves based on our specific differences, we should try and relate to one another according to our basic similarities; simply being human. Maybe then there would be less violence and more peace in this world. TGO

VILNIUS, Lithuania – A Lithuanian appeals court says a gay pride parade can go ahead as planned this weekend, overturning a ban imposed by a lower court that cited security concerns.

Law enforcement officials have warned that Saturday’s parade in downtown Vilnius could spark violence and should be canceled, an argument that swayed the lower court.

But the Supreme Administration Court said Friday that the rights to assembly and expression are guaranteed by the European Convention and the government is obligated to defend them.

A recent poll indicates that a large majority of Lithuania’s largely Catholic population is against the parade.
