I have a friend who is obsessed with consciousness. He was involved in a motorcycle accident and was placed in a drug-induced coma to stop the swelling in his brain. Since then, his obsession with the subject of consciousness and to a lesser extent, spirituality is, shall we say, quite silly. TGO

Wow….I am flattered that It actually happened twice in less than a month that I enter the consciousness of this blog.
Obsession or fixation is a concept originated by Sigmund Freud in 1905 to denote the persistence of anachronistic traits. Subsequently, “‘fixation’ acquired a broader connotation. With the development of theory of libidinal stages…the term came to mean a persistent attachment to the entire complex of self and object relation”. More generally, it is the state in which an individual becomes obsessed with an attachment to another person, being, objects, and even ides and ideology (in human psychology): It is, “A strong attachment to a person or thing, especially such an attachment formed in childhood or infancy and manifested in immature or neurotic behavior that persists throughout life”
As we can see, obsession is a human characteristic as fruit flies do not experience it. The irony is that it is an Illusion of anothers “self” towards someone else, vie a vie a judgmental value towards another, and not of our own self – how could it be if our “self” is an illusion. One can say, “John Doe is so obsessed with being at all Green Bay Packer games that he will actually risk getting frostbite by going to the games on some really cold days” whereas Joe Doe may be thinking – and correctly so – “I am such a die hard fan that I will not miss a game no matter how cold it gets.”
Can you dig it? All this time, we thought he was “obsessed” with going to the games but the dude is just a die hard fan. While I could think that you are so obsessed with searching the web for nude pictures of flexible chicks that you will wake up early enough to do it before having to leave for work, you no will no doubtfully feel differently about. You will deny – is that why it’s called the state of denial – being obsessed and maybe be correctly so despite me seeing it as an obsession, if I was judgmentally of said mind. You cannot expect to correctly believe that top scientists – that have never been involved in a motorcycle accident – from the fields of neuroscience, biology, psychology, physics, computation, and philosophy, that are increasingly interested in researching human consciousness, are obsessed, or even are “silly” about it. Or maybe you can as I have notice you slipping further, and further away from reality, with the evolution of The Great Ones Blog. My study of the consciousness for me, dates back to 1985 and more than 150 hrs of The EST Training seminars I attended.
Hey, we may all have an opinion on it but maybe the Buddists are closest to the truth when they say, “The world is an illusion”.
