Jews, Arabs march to mark 45 years of Israeli occupation

The Middle East conflict between Jews and Palestinians will never cease to exist. It’s a shame that people who are basically one in the same cannot coexist with each other because of differing religious ideologies. TGO

Hundreds of Jews and Arabs marched in Tel Aviv on Saturday night to mark the 45th anniversary of the Six-Day War in which Israel seized the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, Israeli media reported.

The left-leaning Haaretz newspaper’s website said around 1,000 people marched from the city’s Rabin Square.

Israeli army radio said “hundreds” took part under the banner “there is no social justice without the end of the occupation,” a reference to Israel’s domestic social protest movement.

Palestinians held protests to mark the June 1967 fighting earlier this week.

On Saturday afternoon, about 300 Palestinians protesting against Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank threw stones at security forces and burnt tyres at Beit Nuba village, north of Ramallah, the military said.

Witnesses said several Palestinians were lightly hurt by rubber bullets and inhalation of tear gas fired by the Israelis. A soldier was lightly injured by a stone and treated at a Tel Aviv hospital, an army spokeswoman said.
