VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says Tim Tebow was treated “shabbily” by the Denver Broncos when they traded him to the New York Jets for Peyton Manning.
Robertson also said that if Manning suffered a recurrence of the neck injury that sidelined him for a full season, Denver would be without a quarterback and “it would serve them right.”
A spokesman for Robertson said Friday the outspoken evangelical Christian was “in no way advocating an injury” to Manning and said he has the highest regard for him.
The 81-year-old Robertson made his comments Thursday on “The 700 Club.” The program is broadcast by Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach.
Robertson had high praise for Tebow, saying Denver was a “nothing team” until Tebow led them into the playoffs last season.

The irony is that someone in their mid-fifties today, suggesting that the Miami Dolphins trade for Tebow and then suggesting they offer Denver a third string punter for him, might in fact, be making comments as ridiculous as this one, when himself is 81 years old. As you well know Casper, I’ve never suggested that the Dolphins trade for Tebow. First of all because I couldn’t care less about the Dolphins and secondly because as you well know, I’ve always said that Tim Tebow SUCKS! From Day 1, when that other idiot Josh McDaniel drafted him (in the first round no less!) I said it was a terrible mistake because Tim Tebow wasn’t an NFL caliber quarterback.
Again, as you well know, my point with the Dolphins is that their front office is so totally fucked up that they probably would be stupid enough to accept a trade from the Broncos for Tim Tebow; and probably give up too much to get him. Let’s see just how “good” the Dolphins have done with the quarterback position since Dan Marino’s retirement: Daunte Culpepper, Damon Huard, Jay Fiedler, Sage Rosenfels, Trent Green, Cleo Lemon, Gus Frerotte, Joey Harrington, John Beck, Ray Lucas, Brian Griese, Chad Pennington, Tyler Thigpen, Matt Moore, Chad Henne and now David Garrard. Oh, and by the way, they passed up on Matt Ryan and Drew Brees (twice) – not to mention drafting kick returners and 180-pound running backs in the 1st round; instead of selecting a top tier quarterback. Brilliant!
The statement that you alluded to in your commentary is below. Yet again, as you well know, a statement CLEARLY meant to be sarcastic; poking fun at the Dolphins’ ineptness in making personnel decisions.
